Martin's Mart MemoMartin's Mart Thrift Shop 1219 S. Main St. 1 1/2 blocks So. of Charleston Blvd. Spring 2008 Phone 382-9344 Open Mon. thru Sat. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shine On, Shine On!"This little light of mine... I'm gonna' let it shine, let it shine, let it shine..." All of us are familiar with this song from our youth. We carry God's Light in our hearts throughout our lives. Sometimes the light shines brightly, at other times it flickers and sometimes it is nearly extinguished. Martin's Mart Thrift Shop has encountered all of these phases in its 36 years but continues to enjoy God's blessings as we serve the needs of our community. We say with confidence, we wouldn't exist except for dedicated workers - 28 of them this past year who gave 2,080 voluntary hours. They let "their light shine" despite untoward hardships at times. A special word of appreciation to the team of Al Clark and son Alan who drives with his dad for needed pick - ups. We are dependent on all the donations of clothing, shoes, nick-knacks, utensils, pots, pans, etc. etc. that are given to the Shop. These contributions come to Martin's Mart in a variety of ways - individuals deliver "drop-offs", agencies and a number of churches graciously make collections which are brought to the shop by members. Thank you for helping to "keep the light shining". Two volunteers are on duty 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They either sort, price, display merchandise or ring up sales. This past year the Shop was able to outfit 147 people with clothing who were carrying 103 vouchers. These vouchers are given by community churches and agencies. After expenses of rent and utilities, this all-volunteer Thrift Shop last year gave monetary donations to the following agencies: Shade Tree, Blind Center, Family Promise (IHN), WEAP, Safe Nest, St. Vincent's Dining Room, and Women's Resource Center. Our 2008 Board Members: Co-Presidents - Ginny Clark & Ilean Shelton Vice President & Merchandising - Barbara High Secretary - Jan Peterson Treasurer - Joyce Saylor Volunteers - Richard Han
