From the Pastor's Computer...Dear Friends,
First of all, I wish to thank all of you for your support in selecting me as
your permanent pastor. It is a
great privilege to work with you all here at Reformation Lutheran Church.
Also, I wish you to know that Hedian and I are very appreciative of the
gift that you presented to us after the
Installation Service. Your kindness
and generosity are very much appreciated.
Thank you!
As
we move forward into the month of February, we have many challenges and
opportunities ahead of us.
Spiritually, we have the challenge of making the old, old story of Lent and
Easter new and relevant to our life today.
Socially, we have the challenge of reaching beyond our normal comfort
level of associates, and looking for people who we can invite to share our
faith experience of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
And with each challenge is an opportunity.
As we explore Lent and Easter we have opportunity to view with new
understanding how my own frustrations and pains are but a prelude to a deeper
life of fellowship with our God.
As we look for people to invite into our church fellowship, we have
opportunity to extend the group of people we care about and who we call
friends (even if they never become members of our church).
On February 3rd we
will have the reception of new members, Ron and Kelly Barritt.
They are the daughter and son-in-law of Jerry and Donna Shelton, and
are now part of our church family.
On February 17th,
my son, Matthew, and his wife, Megan, will visit from Atlanta, and present my
granddaughter, Eve, for the sacrament of Holy Baptism.
Please join us that Sunday, if you can.
One of our on-going projects for helping our neighbors has
focused on the homeless students at Freemont Middle School.
(The school district defines “homeless” children as those who are
living in week-to-week rentals or less permanent.)
Our Community Forum on February 21st,
at 10 am will feature the Outlook Counselor from Freemont, Ms Natasha Tebbs.
Please join us as we learn more about the needs in our neighborhood and
explore ways to help! Don’t forget
to bring a sack lunch for table fellowship following the presentation.
Finally, I would like to mention that we are in the closing
phase of discussion for a Hispanic Baptist mission church to share our
facility on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.
While it helps us pay the electric bill, it also increases the
potential for scheduling conflicts.
It just reminds us how important it is to keep our lines of
communication open. God Bless - - Pastor Loren
