MARY MARTHA CIRCLE   by Dorothy Smith, “Acting Secretary”

Jean Gable was the hostess for the January 9, 2008, meeting.  There were nine members present and Pastor Loren joined us for lunch.

The table centerpieces were little gnomes sitting on a square of artificial grass and the plates and napkins looked beautiful with a butterfly design.  A drawing was held for the centerpieces and Evelyn Mazer, LaDell Miller and Ilean Shelton were the winners.  We enjoyed a delicious lunch.

Before the meeting was called to order, Pastor Loren briefed us on the following coming events:  On Jan. 13, the Bible class will have a question and answer forum concerning events in the Bible, on Jan. 15 Life Line Screening Tests will be given at the church, Pastor Loren’s Installation will be on Jan. 27th, and during Lent in February the Lenten Services will be based on the Ten Commandments.

The meeting was called to order by co-leader Ilean Shelton and opened with prayer.

We sang Happy Birthday to Irene Huff.

Lee Williams, our Treasurer, read her report.  Our Card Lady, Jean Johnson, was unable to attend our meeting.

Dorothy told the ladies that on Christmas Eve seven of our    packets for children were given out and on January 6 two more were given out at our Sunday   service.  This used almost half of our supply.  After discussion, she made a motion that we order a dozen of the coloring books and one unit (4 doz.) of the crayons from an order book titled Oriental Trading supplied by Marie Borror.  The motion was passed. Dorothy will order them.

We discussed a memorial gift for member Jimi Craft who passed away December 23, 2008, and whose memorial service will be  held on Saturday, January 12.  It was agreed to purchase two of our new church hymnals as a memorial gift from our Mary Martha Circle.  Since there will be no obituary in the newspaper, we will contact anyone we think would be interested in attending the Memorial service.

Regarding the crosses we give visitors on Sunday morning, Jean Gable brought three she had made and Lee Williams has five that she has made and will bring to the church.  Ilean Shelton is also providing crosses.

The program was presented by Jean Gable and she read three interesting stores from a book that contained “Meditations for Women.”

The hostesses for our February 13th meeting will be Jean Gable and Ange Stange.

The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.

Ladies please join us at our next meeting on February 13th .
