OUTREACH AND MEMBERSHIP

by Eileen Ward

At our January meeting, we discussed the following:

¨ Life Line Screening January 15th (3 free screenings - we had a drawing after church and Sharon Graf, Pete Geloff and Gini Train were the winners!)

¨ All church visitors during the month were contacted either by phone or visit.

¨ Visitation of Home Companions - see article on page 3 for additional information.

¨ Community Forum - Speaker, Natasha Tebbs M.E.D.-Outlook Counselor at Fremont Middle School, on community and school needs - scheduled for Feb. 21st at 10:00 a.m. - Bring a sack lunch.

¨ Discussed grant for sending of postcards for Christmas - we had visitors that indicated they received the cards and they were attending because of the cards.  We are thinking of doing an Easter card.

¨ Eileen prepared the Annual Report and all members read and approved it.

¨ Use of Outreach money was discussed - will probably advertise in Yellow pages - next edition is in July 2008.

¨ Community Outreach Thrift Store (1304 East Lake Mead Blvd, NLV) is receiving a huge donation of upscale hotel suite furnishings from a casino.  See article below for additional information.

¨ Needs of Indigent Patients at Desert Lane Care Centers, brought to our attention by Warren Reinig.  We will be asking for donations: Sweat suits, white tee shirts, white socks, ladies slippers, board games, etc.  Plans progressing for this project - watch for further details.

¨ We will be having a special meeting to establish protocol for responding to visitors, it is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Feb. 13th.

¨ We have $1300 available for match money from Thrivent Financial.  There is going to be a Spaghetti dinner on Saturday, February 23rd with money raised to go to Hunger 89104.  An April fundraiser is being planned for the 19th.

MEN’S MINISTRY

Members: Richard Stroup, Dennis Geiter, Jack Potter, Pat Ward, Pastor Loren and Carl Young.

We had a good time sharing lunch and watching a tape on the Maya Indians of Mexico - it was interesting to see their calendar.

Come and join us on the 2nd Monday in February. at 12:30 p.m.  I’ll bring cookies - our next tape will be on Heaven.

Herb and Adele Hansen took our pop tops to the Ronald McDonald House the beginning of January.  We received a thank-you letter from Katherine Peter the House Manager, the funds received from the pop-tops are directly used to serve their families.

Keep them coming!

The Community Outreach Thrift Store has received truckloads of furniture from an upscale hotel.  These items are for sale.  You can view items on their web site: www.com-nv.com .

Here is how you can help:
1.  Pray for our small loyal store staff as they work very hard to make this a real blessing.
2.  Spread the word to your friends, church ministries, contractors, apt owners, and your LV email network.
3.  Send me any ministry ideas that might work with the store and benefit from this donation.
4.  If you want to volunteer, call Julianna at 399-0552. She will appreciate any volunteer teams that come forward.
Thank you,
