MARY MARTHA CIRCLE   by Dorothy Smith, “Acting Secretary”

JoAnn Wassell and her daughter Joi Warburton were the hostesses for our April 9th meeting.  The meeting was mostly in celebration and loving memory of Elizabeth Anderson’s 97th birthday, which would have been today but she was eight days short of reaching it.  There were nine members present and Joi and JoAnn Young were guests.  Pastor Loren joined us for lunch.

Prior to a delicious lunch which included a beautifully decorated chocolate Happy Birthday cake, as well as a carrot cake, we sang a Happy Birthday to each of our April birthday persons, including Elizabeth.  Each birthday person, Jean Johnson, Ange Stange and Pastor Loren received a table centerpiece of fresh flowers with butterfly balloons attached.  A drawing for the other butterfly balloon flower centerpiece was won by our guest Joann Young.

The meeting was called to order by Co-leader Dorothy Smith and Pastor Loren was asked to give the prayer.  Elizabeth was so looking forward to celebrating her 97th birthday with us that JoAnn and her daughter Joi carried out her wishes by providing this birthday luncheon.  Dorothy said since December 23rd of last year we have been saddened by the death of our sisters Jimi Craft, LaDell Miller, and now Elizabeth Anderson whose memorial service would be held April 18th at 2:00 p.m.

Lee Williams, our Treasurer, read her report.  Our Card Lady, Jean Johnson, reported she had mailed out three cards this month.

Dorothy reminded the ladies that we had given two hymnals each for Jim and LaDell as a memorial and asked for suggestions for a memorial gift for Elizabeth.  A plaque, hymnals and things for the kitchen were suggested, but we decided to table a decision until our next meeting.

Dorothy thanked all the ladies who provided food for the Health Fair workers on March 17th and it went very well.

JoAnn Wassell said she had already received $265. in memorial gifts for her mother which she would be turning over to the church.

Dorothy passed around her 1973 Church Pictorial Directory which contained a picture of Elizabeth and also JoAnn and her family.  So Elizabeth had been a member since the early 1970’s and served the church in many ways.

Joann Young said there would be a luncheon after Elizabeth’s memorial service and we signed up to bring food.

The program was presented by JoAnn Wassell and she read about the history of the hymn “How Great Thou Art.”  This hymn was made popular by the Billy Graham Crusades.

The next meeting, and last until September 10, will be on May 14.  Instead of Pot Luck, Ange and Pastor Loren will be providing us lunch.

You ladies are all invited to come!
